Reports are coming in that mandatory evacuations will start as early as this weekend. Clearly lessons have been learned from Hurricane Katrina.
Being in the peak of the hurricane season, the lion share of our emergency preparation should be complete. These tasks include our pantry restocked with canned foods, evacuation plans made and discussed with family members, pictures and video's taken of our household possessions, insurance policies and other important papers secured in a safe location and of course a solution in place for an emergency water supply.
As you know as storms approach the mainland we are constantly reminded to store 1 gallon of water per person per day for at least 2 weeks. The top recommendation is to purchase bottled water. If you are a family of five and follow the "recommended guidelines", you will need to purchase (and store) 70 gallons of bottled water. This will cost approximately $70 and leave you with the headache of locating a store that isn't sold out of water yet, handling hundreds of pounds of water and finding a place in your home to store them where you won't trip over them!
Another common recommendation is filling one's bathtub with water. That seems simple enough, however, 95 percent of people we polled said their bathtubs leaked. Tubs are meant to hold water for a bath - not an indefinite period of time. If by chance a tub can hold a lot of water for a long time, what happens to the "exposed" water? This emergency water storage method is a live "petri dish". Everything imaginable can contaminate the water, including pets, spiders, roaches, dust, bacteria etc.
Not only is the water exposed to contaminates; it is also open to small children. If a family with small children utilizes the method of filling the bathtub, they are risking the possible drowning of their small children.
We are proud to offer the Watersafe™ as a better solution for an emergency water supply system as it is easy to use, convenient to store, compact, affordable, easily accessible and delivers safe drinkable water in time of need.
